Letter to Slough Council.

22nd December 1998

Dear Mr Boylan

Thank you for your letter to our District Representative, Mr Crocker, in his absence we as members of the local district MAG group would like to address the points raised in the order you submitted them.

The provision of specific motorcycle parking is the issue we are interested in. We realise that we may use council parking spaces for twice as long as a four wheeled vehicles, but we do not have anywhere to secure a parking ticket or for that matter, the motorcycle itself. We need secure parking for our vehicles. As with cars, we can disable our bikes to prevent them being wheeled away, but cannot prevent them from being physically picked up and carried away, we need security bars to which our bikes can be chained.

The Advisory group was set up under the previous government and our role with the community is already being considered. What we would like to point out is that, as motor vehicle users, we do already pay in the form of road fund licences, yet receive less consideration in secure and convenient parking facilities than cyclists who do not contribute to any specific road taxing system.

We have considered several sites in Slough, but would invite you to view the motorcycle provisions made in Bracknell. The siting of the bike park is very public, security bars have been provided, bicycles are not permitted to share the facility, neither are four wheeled vehicles. It is on the main road route into the town centre and is very well sign posted.

You will find enclosed a map of Slough Town Centre and the areas we think would be best suited for our needs, will not conflict with cyclist provisions and will be of low cost to install for yourselves.

We would like to know the timetable you are using to discuss these matters in chambers and which councillors are taking an interest in transport and communications issues.

Yours sincerely
for Motorcycle Action Group, Windsor and District
